Stroker Engines/ 5.0 or 5.8
I am just a little curious as to what all you guys think! There is no right or wrong here, just a little fun and all opinions are welcome.
Here it is, given that it is about the same cost to stroke a 5.8 as it is to stroke a 5.0 which direction would all of you enthusiasts go and why?

5.8... Bigger MOTOR!!!
But when your talking about bigger dispalcemnt and higher torque engines, you need to consider all the other mods for getting it to the ground... traction bars, beefed up u joints, clutch tranny etc.

RE: Stroker Engines/ 5.0 or 5.8
I was just wondering because given that street cars are usually heavier than race cars stroking a 351 would be a better choice than stroking a 5.0. I could be wrong here but when cubing up with either engine you need heads, intake , injectors, headers, the whole deal to support the cubes and horsepower. As for the rest of the stuff, traction etc, no matter what you cube up, with the right heads and combo you will have all the issues you mention anyway. Besides, I was hoping to see what all of you out there thought before doing my next combo.

I don't like stroking stock 5.0 block unless you are staying N/A. With any power adder you can easily break a stock block 306. Other than that, it's all cost vs. gain issues and what you're intentions are for the car.

I would go with a 5.8 without a doubt. Just like they say... theres no replacement.... you know the rest lol. Seriously though, you can go with a 393 or a 408 or 418, etc. You can also carb it (alot easier and cheaper than keeping it efi) and save yourself a crapload of money also. And no matter what engine you have, if you are pushing more than 300rwhp you are going to have traction issues. Thats just a fact. But for the best bang for the buck I would go with a 5.8. Just my .02

RE: Stroker Engines/ 5.0 or 5.8
When I finally start putting money into the motor, Id be looking for a street/strip setup. Something to burn most anything on the street and still be streetable and yet do good on the strip. But I have no idea which way to go. See, Ill probably be staying with a stock block.
My neighbor has got his stock block turbocharged at like 9psi and 560rwhp. Its sick. I plan to stay n/a until I get a supacharger though.

This question can go many ways. If your looking to just make a butt load of power. the stroked 351 is the way to go. HOWEVER you can still make really good power on a NON stroked motor.
keep in mind that
longer stroke = more torque at the sacrifice of RPM's
shorter stroke = more HP due to high rpm's but a lack in torque
for all of those who will argue with me. a stock honda 1.6 wont ever make more then 200ft/lbs tq.... but it revs like a bitch, my 1991 Ford Probe GT... long stroke motor... i pulled 286 ft/lbs out of it on the stock turbo and fuel system. however since my redline is around 5700 RPM's i only made 203 hp. and it fell off quickly after 5200rpm's (glad i have a bigger turbo for it)
so again. like a said.. its all application dependant. If your making a highway speed queen. keep with a short stroke, itll give you more top end
if your gonna drag race it... TORQUE IS KING!!!! stroke that ****er
