Default Clogged injectors/computer compensation?

Just wondering, if a couple of fuel injectors were clogged, would the computer compensate by providing more fuel? If so, would just those injectors that are clogged be over-fueled, or would more fuel be supplied to all 8 injectors. I'm trying to figure out why I only get like 190 miles to a tank, even though all maintenance has been done. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on the issue.

If it sees a lean condition, the ecm may try to compensate for it. What do you mean by "overfueled"? The injectors on/off time is called a pulse width. That is the amount the injector is opened and closed. If it is clogged, no matter what the pulse width is, it's only gonna pass a certain amout of gas through it. I assume all tune up parts and air filter is in good condition. You could try some additive. Also, how many miles are on it and are the 02's still original. They are usually the cause of poor mileage. Are you ina cold climate right now, if so, that will also contribute to lower mileage.

Thanks for the reply, Pro50. I won't even pretend to understand how fuel injection works...because I don't. But I used to work on motorcycles quite a bit--was part-owner of a SoCal shop for a while. In my early days, a bike would come in presenting lean symptoms as a result of carb jets in one carb being clogged. Not being hip to this at the time, I would sometimes try enrichening the other three carbs to correct the lean condition. Obviously, this did not work. All carbs would wind up being overfueled except for the one part of the one carb that was clogged. As I mentioned, I know little of fuel maps and ecu's. But I imagined for a second that the car's computer might try to do what I did manually on these carbed bikes--generalized overfueling to compensate for a localized lean condition. I was just wondering whether F/I systems worked this way.

At any rate, I haven't checked my 02 sensors. But I'll start researching the subject right away. Thanks for the insight.

I meant to say "...enrichening all four carbs" in my previous post.

It does to a point. It will fatten them up across the board. Not one individually. The technology may be out there I'm sure, but not in these cars.

buy a can of sea foam for like 4 dollars from the parts store and follow directions.

let a third get sucked in through a vacuum line (will clean out carbon), a third into the crankcase, and a third into the gas tank.(cleans out injectors)

crank it up (will smoke like hell) and run until it stops smoking. change the oil and see if you don't notice a difference in idle quality and gas mileage.

Thanks, Pro50. That's what I was after. Think I'll run some Techron that I have laying around in my garage--see what happens. Between that and the O2 sensors, hopefully I'll solve the problem--if there even is one. Thanks again.

Thanks, Fordguy. Maybe I will try some of the ole' smoke-potion, if it comes to that. Thanks for the idea.
