Based on your experience I track your responses...why are 3.73's better than 3.55's in an everyday word? I'm talking an everyday application daily driver with full bolt ons. I ran out of gear (not in the 1/4 but on the highway) with mine and we both know these mills aren't known for their top end. 3.55's offer plenty of 1st and 2nd and then have bite in 3-5. Damnit, I just prefer the manerisms of 3.55's...

3.73's...good for all around performance...get some slicks and you should get your 13 second pass without gears (thats if you werent using them before)

3.73 are in my car and my only complaint is here in TN the interstates are 70mph and I like to run about 77. just seems to turn the car a little tighter than i would like. but no chance of me changing to anything else.

I have 3.73's in my car and it's great... keeps the rpm's good on highway and actually helped my gas mileage in town! but i've heard that 3.55's are good... by personal experiece i would go with 3.73's no negatives in my opinion. oh and my car except for msd, underdrive pulleys, throttle body and exhaust is stock. In other words no real engine work

Two more cents for the thread. I'm sure I'll catch hell for this, but I would be willing to bet you would see little to no difference in 1/4 mile time between 3.55/3.73. If you look at most, actually all the 1/4 mile time calculators I've seen, they don't even ask you about gear ratio. They only ask for vehicle weight and horse power. My PERSONAL opinion is that the difference is felt in the seat of the pants for a short distance, then negligible, if that, after that. Gears are torque multipliers. The less torque you got down low, the more gear you need.

Now, if the car is an automatic, I'll go with the 3.73's since the factory torque converters have less than desirable torque multiplication and the gear ratios are wider within the trans. I run 4.10's in my Mark VIII because of the trans ratios, weight and crappy factory torque converter.

I have an 93 auto car with 3.90's in it right now (went from 2.73's). Its not daily driven but even if it were, I wouldnt have any complaints. Still gets damn good gas mileage considering. I dont drive the car much but to be completely honest, I couldnt even tell a difference in MPG from before and after. My cruising RPM's are higher obviously but thats no biggie to me, just turn the radio up

I have had 2:73,3:08,3:55,3:73 and 4:10 gears in several cars. I prefer 3:73's as I think that they are the best OVERALL ratio.

It also depends on what you plan on doing with the car. For example, if you REALISTICALLY think you are going to have a sc/turbo on your car by the end of the year than you might not want to go with the steeper gear.

I went through this whole decision making procees recently myself, my last stang I had 3:55's in it and I liked them, however that was a fox body and my new SN95 has 18 inch wheels with a taller tire so I'm going 3:73's on this one which will probably work out somewhere between the 2 ratio's.
