Default Speedo Gear

Where can I find a speedometer gear for 91 t-5 w/ 3.73's? The gears on latemodel for 91-93 only go from 3.08 to 3.55s. The gears for the 89 and earlier cars go up to 4.11's. I guess the difference lies in the gauge cluster? How many tooth gear do I need? 24? 25?

Well now I see a kit on latemodel resto that has a 19 tooth gear and it says its the best for t5's with 3.73s.

It's the sixth one down.

Would this be ideal for my situation?

My '91 GT came with a "Black" 20 tooth gear with the factory 3.08's....you'll need at least a 23 tooth!

But how is it that the kits they sell in that link (3rd item down and below) seem to decrease in the number of teeth as the gear ratio gets higher? Whereas in the table linked from the actual items the number of teeth increase with gear ratio. I love contradictions.

Look at the kit with the ketchup and mustard lookin gears.
"This kit contains a 7 tooth drive gear with retaining clip and a 21 tooth driven gear with retaining clip. This is the most accurate gear combination for a T5 car equipped with 3.73 gears. "

Ford changed the gear inside the T-5's somwhere around 1990 +/- ...try to find a Ford Racing catalog! ...trust me, with a 1991, you'll need a 23 tooth speedo gear with 3.73's...

Believe it or not, you can buy the 23 tooth cheaper a a Jeep dealership (same gear!!)...I will get the Jeep part # tonight!!

According to this link I need a 23 tooth gear for 3.55's...

I have 3.55's now with the proper gear( I didn't install so I don't know the actual gear's teeth number, I assume its 23)

if that's the case, wouldn't I need a 24?

Does this chart confuse anyone else?

Well, after giving in and calling them up for help, here's the final situation.

The 23 tooth speedo gear that you have been praising, is what I have... it is calibrated for 3.55 gears and when used with 3.73s its merely "close enough" for most people. Not for me, for true 3.73 calibration it requires changing the drive gear inside the transmission as well as the gear that most people change. While this does require removing the tail stock from the t-5, it's not that bad of a change. This is why the more precise gear kits that late model sell seem to go down in teeth as the gear ratio goes higher, simply because of the altered drive gear. (I'm gonna be using a 19 tooth, I believe).

OK...do what you want! ...with the 3.73's & a 19 tooth speedo gear your going to reading WAY TO FAST (putting more miles on the car ....at a true 55 mph, your speedo will read 65 mph with the 19! ...like 57 mph with the 23 tooth!)

So if the "White" 23 tooth is close with 3.55's & 3.73's, WHY would you use a 19 tooth???
