Default oil not gettin to top end

i also broke my crank in my pony just a lil over 2 grand. so i put a different 302 motor in from a 95 ford truck. cleaned the block real good and the cylinder walls looked good. i used my heads new oil pan and pick up tube. i also installed new timing chain and gears. i put everything back together and i started it for the first time today. sounds good no miss but i have some vavletrain noise so i pulled off a vavle cover and only a few of the rockers seemed to be gettin oil and there is no oil pressure showin on the gauge (aftermarket auto meter). i tried the prime it by takin an old distributor and takin the gear off and puttin a drill on it. turned it counter clookwise for a lil but didnt seem to work. i only replaced the oil sump tube not the pump. so im not sure whats worng with it. could it be the lifters or the old oil pump? im kinda lost any ideas woulde be great thanx!

Did you put a gasket between the oil pump and pick-up tube? Could be sucking air between the pump and pickup. You should have installed a new oil pump.

You should have primed before install and after when you got your gauge installed. I would never run a motor until i check and made sure oil pressure was there..i would have also put a new pump on.

Lucky, and hopefully you didnt scare anything

first thing I'd do would be check all the oil galley plugs and make sure one had not blown out.= common to occur

i started the car noticed there was no oil pressure and shut it off so i hope nothin got messed up. i did install the ford racing oil pan swap kit so the clearance should be good but will double check. i also picked up a new oil pump today along with the gaskets and hope to get it changed this week. ill make sure and prime the new pump along with the system and check for oil pressure before i start it again. is the best way to prime it by usin that old distributor and a drill goin counter clockwise? thanx

I have a collection of old distributors with the tops cut off and the gears removed for priming oil pumps. You have to remove the gear from the dist shaft and prime it for at least 5 minutes turning the engine 1/4 turn every minute or so. If you didn't run it but a few seconds you should be OK.
