Question Thinking of buying a 5.0L. . . Anything imparticular to look for?

I am thinking of selling my 2000 GT and buying a 5.0L. Want to build a single turbo street/strip car. Any certain years I should look for. Whats a good price for a decent foxbody, body doesnt have to be in great shape, as I am a body tech? Any links or info to help me make a better choice are greatly appreciated. What hp is a Stock 5.0L capable of. I know that 2V are only good too 400-450hp weak rotating asse. Thanks.

look for 89-92 as for hp level...all depends on how well the boosted application is tuned

usually they say 500hp to the wheels is were the blocks start coming apart, but stay with the years mjr recomended as they come with forged pistons (arnt high quaility or anything but a better piston over all)

Look for rust in the 1/4 panel area (mainly behind the wheels), iner door frame, and windshield piller hing area of the door

nothing wrong with 87-88, they can easily be converted to a MAF setup

I would say look for rust on the bottom of the doors, 1/4 panels, and trunk(notch). Make sure the Chasis is str8. just give it a thorough look over in the engine bay, dont get a hacked up car.

On the Fox cars, the 87-92 have forged pistons vs the hypertuetic of the 93-95. A basic B&G turbo kit with the proper fuel and boltons will net a 5.0 420+rwhp easily. My car is pushing 16psi of supercharged boost through the stock 5.0 internals if that says anything.

i just went through this last summer, check the rear suspension (torque boxes) for welds or tears.if you looking for a well treated stocker, look at the motor and look for fresh silicone at the timing covers and if the heads had been changed latley, and the intake.there are plenty of great well treated 5.0's out there.most of the ones i looked at were stripped of aftermarket parts and the oems went on for the sale.it seems allot of 5.0's were passed from buddy to buddy and rode hard.mine was original owner,it even had a trailer hitch on it!!!.i'm changing things piece by piece as time goes on and it adds up,remember the youngest fox you'll find is at least 16.after that BUILD THE HELL OUT OF IT,THEN YOU KNOW WHAT YOU GOT!!!!

If I were you I would stick with the car you have. You know what condition it is in and you can get more than enough power out of a 4.6.
