Default i need tips for the drag strip!!!

i'm lookin for some help at the drag strip...i finally got a chance to take my 95 GT conv. to the strip and took two passes running 14.987 and 14.965. i roasted first gear both times off the line...other than keeping my foot out of it. . . i've heard of people letting some air out of their tires to pick up some traction(i'm running yokohoma 315's in the rear). any pros or cons and does it work? and if it does work what psi do you recommend i run?

also, i was wondering how much of a difference it makes if i have a full tank of gas and my 125lb girlfriend with me??? is that really going to slow my car down or won't it make a difference? thanks

General Drag rule of thumb is hundred pounds = .10 seconds. Obviously not ***** on *** accurate but you get the point.

Your tires a spinning because you're probably running street tires and aren't a seasoned driver. I wouldn't worry about letting your tires air out or running on half a tank because at this level that's just not necessary.

Start tearing into your suspension Gears, Control Arms, better Tires, and etc. Make A WORLD of difference you wouldn't believe.

And the first two are relatively cheap

Personally I like to have about 3/4 tank of fuel in my car when making passes. Puts a little more weight over the rear axle. Most tracks won't allow a passenger. On street tires you need to roll out like you are leaving a stop light in a hurry then get out about 10-15 feet and nail it. Letting out a little air will help for sure but if this is going to be a regular thing you may want to invest in a extra set of wheels and some drag radials. We can tell more after you post pictures of 125lb girlfriend.

i have 3.73 gears in the rear...tokico shocks and struts dropped 1 1/4 all around except for the front has an extra half inch drop from the x2 ball joints and steeda bump steer kit, along with full length subframe connectors................what do you recommend for tires? go straight for slicks? or something like the nitto street/strip tires?

i agree. if i had to air down my tires i would put them to about 20 pounds. Dont go too much lower. you could lose stability. Having extra gas and a girl would most def. slow you down. cheap set of ponys with drag radials is best. Dont do control arms or gears if you dont plan to go to the track alot. tons of money and gears are tough to do.feather the clutch off the line till about 15- 20 feet and hit it. you should not spin. Oh and make sure you heat the tires up if you have drag radials. i picked up .7 just from using drag radials.

feathering the clutch is KEY!! on street tires, this takes time and lots of practice but once mastered watch your et drop. for street tires no burn outs! a simple dry hop is all thats necessary. work on your 60fts and youll get there.

idk what JD5.0Stang is talking about but control arms are not too expensive and not that hard to install. they will give you a firmer feel in the rear and prevent unwanted wheel hop which is good. i was going to go with these until i stumbled on a parts car that had granitelli ones brand new lol. http://www.uprproducts.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=1701 they have poly mounts that help prevent unwanted flex. but keep the stock style rubber bushing in the axle housing to prevent binding around corners.

i had 3.73 gears installed and trac-loc rebuilt for roughly around $560 including parts and labor and the labor only cost me $170

also these are not necessary but are a good investment if you plan on running slicks and a bunch of power http://www.uprproducts.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=243

The last time I went to the rack, I ran street tires, lowered the PSI to 18, did a healthy burnout, and launched at 2300ish and got a 1.89 60 ft. I don't go that often so DRs aren't a good investment for me. I also have HPM Mega bit Jr. LCAs and lakewood 50/50 rear shocks.

The tires are 275/4017 Cooper Zx2s
