I used tinted clear coat, multiple coats till I got it how dark i wanted. It is shiney and the light shines thru it great. I got pulled over for mine right away so I had to sand the off the brake light area, but they still look good IMO

Have you ever been pulled over like stanger? do you have a pic of em at daytime with the brake lights on? Mine is a DD but i would LOVE blacked out lights like that.

car is being cut apart right now....well actually being reassembled as we speak (you can check my thread if you want) so i have no power to the tail lights otherwise i would get a video/pictures of them running during the day.

no i've never been pulled over before for tinted tails. i have been pulled over for tail light/headlight "covers" in my old '98 mustang but they are way more obvious IMO where as the tinted tails look more normal. sucks that kyle got nabbed for the tails though.

Thanks for the help guys. I like the fact that it is really dark, but i don't know if i want to have to worry about someone plowing into me at 40 when i''m trying to stop and they aren't paying attention.

I''ll probably do it anyway, i don't like just normal red lx taillights, everybody has them here. i want it to be different, and i love the black/blue theme.

5.0stanger did you use the vht nightshades spray or do you remember what you used? cause i love the way yours look. thats what i'm going for.

can you even see your brake lights in the day time?

thanks again for your help and time, its been awhile since i've been on here, but i'm on vacation in texas and i want to get this figured out so i can get home.

sooner or later no matter who you are if you drive the car enough you will be spotted with tinted covers and pulled over

I used clear coat with a little black base coat paint in it to make a tinted clear. Then I sprayed it on with a gun, a few coat till I got it how I liked it. I liked how it looked, but it is illegal and the cops got me for it. The light shined thru fine, really good actually, but still illegal. Here is what it looked like before, no light on pictures.
