Default What heads to get for 331 stroker w/ x303 cam?

ok, i just reciently bought a 1991 mustang gt for 3000 dollars. All it needed the guy said are the heads, injectors, and mass air meter. This is what it has...

Hawks racing 331 bottom end w/ main cap girdle
racing pistons w/ flat top design
explorer intake manifold
70mm throttle body
255lph fuel pump
voss performance cold air kit
x303 camshaft w/ upgraded valve springs

These are the things that I know. I was told the next thing I need to do is get better heads. 1st off does this look like a good setup? I have did research all day and have no clue about most of this. I was thinking about getting edelbrock performer 170cc heads. But is 170cc enough for that cam and the 331 stroker? The guy that sold it to me said he was gonna eventually put a 210cc procomp heads, but i was told by many that 210cc is WAY to big of heads.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated! I've been researching this forever and can't find what heads to get for my stang.

THANKS!

Those Edelbrock heads are much too small. Better off getting a set of either AFR 185/195's or some Trickflow High Ports. From there I recommend a custom cam to tie the whole setup together, Camshaft Innovations has been used very sucessfully on this board. The X303 is going to be costing you some power.

TFS TW 170's or 190's "fast as cast" + CI custom cam combo..... upgrade that intake and you'll end up with a little street monster capable of running low 11's N/A. And no.... 210cc heads are not too big for a 331 or a 306...... it's the whole combo that needs to be set correctly to benefit from better flowing heads.

stay away from procomp heads. i run a 205 heads on my 331 thats been ported to about 210 so they arent too big. 170 will be too small for a 331. try looking at some of the better heads like TW or AFR. you can get them used at a good price over on corral any day of the week

TFS heads/valvegear are THE way to go as long as you are running hydraulic roller stuff. Not only on here but on other boards there is not a lot of good news about 'Pro-Comp' heads, made in China by chinks anyway.............

Okay, i've been reading alot...

And I have decided to get the following for my mustang.

24lb injectors
78mm mass air flow
BBK shorty headers

And the next part is the intake / head /cam combo.

I already have the x303 cam...

If I get the AFR heads 185cc will they bolt right on without having to notch the pistons or anything? And I was going to get a Edelbrock performer RPM ll intake.

depends on your piston valve reliefs and what they are currently, 185's are a decent choice, I run them on my 347, as for your injector size and cam choice for a stroker

Well, I still have the stock heads and gt40 intake on my 331 stroker, do you think it would be ok to go ahead and put the 75mm mass air and 24lb injectors on? And put the heads and intake on a little later when i buy theM? Would I notice a difference in anything?
