Default What is the best manual transmission available for a 1988 GT Mustang?

I hear some say it is the T-5 other something else. I currently have a T-5 to install but is there something more stronger out there?

if your car is stock a t-5 will suffice, if you plan to rip on it, tremec tko 500 or 600

I have never owned one but have heard good things about the g-force t-5.. I have a tko 600 and like it alot, just have to get used to a few noises that a t-5 doesn't make.. The tko 500 has a little bit taller 1st gear ratio than the 600, which might make it a little easier to launch with..

You don't want a faceplated trans on the street where you drive a lot. They require periodic disassembly and dressing of the synchro mechanism. Faceplating is great for road or drag race setups though, since the larger engagement window makes for butter smooth shifting, even at insane rpm.

T56's are nice if you want double overdrive, but it depends on what your gearing is also, since they have different ratios than the 5 speeds do. The TKO's are rock solid transmissions. They have advantages and disadvantages for each.
