Shopping for a 5.0
How does this sound:
"1988 mustang gt 5.0 with t-tops.63,000 original miles. Have all original paperwork including title window sticker. Car is red with gray interior, has new tires, brakes, rotors, headlights, exhaust. Only thing wrong with car is horn sticks, needs door interlock switches, and speed needle bounces. car is in excellent shape, never driven in rain or snow, garaged 17 yrs."
The door locks seem to be a common issue. How much to fix?
Thanks!
Bill

If I read it right, he doesn't say it needs new locks, it says new "interlock switches." I'm not familiar with any sort of safety interlock on a 5.0, so perhaps he's referring to the door jamb switches that turn on the dome light and prompt the "door ajar" message on the instrument cluster...

Yeah, kind of sounded like some electrical gremlins?
I had a 1990 LX 5.0 and had no issues with it.
Anyone know if the 88 GTs have an electric speedo, or good old fashioned cable speedo?

I don't know if this will relate to your horn problem but I bought a 88' GT new and on the first good cold night going into winter, the horn went off. I had to disconnect the battery to silence it and the next day when I reconnected the battery to take the car to Ford, everything was fine. It turned out to be the vinyl covering on the face of the steering wheel would contract enough in the cold to close the embedded contact switch. The dealer said that they'd had seen that problem a few times before and mentioned that they would have to boil the vinyl piece to fix it. Seemed like a strange fix but I never had troubles with it again.
And I was laying in bed wondering who the idiot blowing the horn was....

If its in good running condition, garage kept and never seen snow with no rust then thats a fair asking price. These cars are hard to find un abused and rust free. Just make sure you check under the car, torque boxes ect..
