Gt has a higher insurance rate then the lx , also they can rust pretty bad under all those "cool ground effects" not to mention weight. Engine, trans, and rearend wise EVerything is the same!

It is a question of taste. Some have it some don't. To each their own.

I like any clean fox body as long as it has the 5.0L or larger engine and a 5 speed. When I was looking for a Mustang, I wanted an LX but found the GT. I felt the GT's were ugly when they first came out in '87 but after buying one, the looks grew on me. The front view of a fox GT is a bit more aggressive looking than an LX and sure as hell intimidates the slow driver front of you when he's looking in his rearview mirror and sees the predator looking face of a GT grinning at him.

I purchased an '87 LX 5.0 notch brand new back in the day and it was one of the first production models with the upgraded engine and "aero" headlights. Personally, I preferred the "sleeper" aspect as opposed to the more aggressive (and some might argue tackier) GT. The only thing I added was a drop in K&N filter and it ran a best of 14.18 @ 100 MPH at Baylands Raceway in Fremont, CA which is pretty much at sea level. I caught quite a few 60's muscle cars by surprise on the street until they became more well known. My buddy bought an 88 GT and I pulled him by at least 3 cars from a dig. I think the LX's innocent looks (especially the notch) made it a pretty convincing sleeper.

You know, we are discussing GT's vs LX's. But why not the 94-95 GT vs. GTS. Not many people know about them, but they are similar to the LX's of the fox body generation. The GT'S' stands for "stripped" and was actually called a GTS on the invoice. It consisted of deleted fog lights and rear wing. It came with the base 16" rims, no ABS, no interior trunk release, V6 sport seats(not even electric, unlike the V6's), plastic steering rim, standard 80 watt sound system and no cruise control. However, many of these options could be added. When everything was said and done, the GTS weighed about 100lbs less than a standard GT and carried an invoice of just over $17,000(The GT was over $19,000). Plus, only 6,800 GTS's were made, so they are relatively rare. Although this is a GT vs LX debate, I thought this to be comparable to the GT vs. GTS.
