^Part stores rarely do, especially Autozone. You can usually order stuff through them but their prices are jacked sky high most of the time.

So I discovered. But I pretty much suspected that anyway. My 5.0 has one on it already, but its not a great quality. No idea what the brand is... MY HUSBAND bought it for me and installed it as a surprise, so y'know the whole gift horse thing. I was looking for a CAI for my 06 GT. I'll be putting a different CAI on the 5.0 next summer.

But yeah, I hate trying to talk to hired help that don't know jack. I learned real quick to do my own research on the things that I can, and if I get moron on the other line, I usually call back later and ask for someone different and higher up the food chain. I ran into that ordering a leather shift boot for my 5.0 - I explained, and explained... A LEATHER SHIFT BOOT. LEATHER. How difficult is that to understand? What I got, after all the discussion, was a LOWER SHIFT BOOT.

I shoulda just called back later and talked to someone else. And yeah, I know, a leather shift boot on an AOD shifter? I was prepared to do without the indicator, I know what gear I'm in in my own car and the OEM one is crap. Wanted to toss it.

Default Are you sure? Really?

No way!? Really? The entire more air in, more air out concept isn't helpful?

Wait - GET OUT! No way! To regurgitate some quick research done at Mustang50Magazine.com:

"In our little corner (the Mustang hobby) of the overall hot-rod scene, cold-air induction (CAI) systems have been mainstays for carbureted and fuel-injected 'Stangs since the middle '80s, with many companies developing CAI kits that enhance Ponies' performance somewhat dramatically, just by improving the flow of cold, fresh air to the carb or throttle body."

We didn't just bolt on a CAI - we put on a bigger tb, MAC headers, MAC exhaust, etc.

i think he's joking. they do something just not a whole lot. on newer mustangs you throw a cold air kit and a tune and you can gain a pretty good amount.

Default Bwahahaha

Yeaaahhhhh - I thought he was messin' with me, but y'never know! LOL It seemed to make a difference on my 91, but like I said, we didn't just throw on a CAI and go with it, it got a buttload of performance parts added on.

Wow I'm not bragging but engines are expensive as hell at your yard, talk him down some more I say. A shortblock at one of the yards around here is 64 bucks ... no matter what the block is. The only thing is you got to pull it yourself.

i paid way to much for mine.. i think i payed 450 for a stock 5.0 ho engine. bone stock..

the only other one i found around the same price had half of the driver cylinder head melted down from a battery fire or something as i was told. and they wanted 375ish if i remember correctly.

I hate dealing with morons, which seems to be all of the orielly crew across wichita. i had 2 people that work there trying to tell me 5.0's came with 500hp from the factory... i insisted that my 5.0 had nowhere near that much power let alone any other "STOCK" 5.0... i told them to give me my radiator hose and walked out.

no i wasnt joking. a CAI does nothing, on a 5.0(pushrod motor), except redirect where air is coming from. few thigns are different with a CAI that make it better than a bone stock set up

1) most often times the CAI you purchase comes with a high flow air filter.

2) air is pulled from inside your fender away from hot air

3) in order to make the CAI work you need to remove the air silencer so the air filter fits.

BUT

this is why i say CAI's do nothing.... all of the above can be obtained with a K&N panel filter, stock air box and removal of the air silencer. it does exactly the same your "CAI" kit AND its cheaper, except it isnt "shiny and purdy"

now i will say a CAI does have quite a vast improvement in power on the newer stangs...but thats generally accompanied with a tune. i bet you if you just tune a stock newer (05+)stang, you'd get nearly the same result if you just drop in a high flow air filter over the stock

Default Ah ha.

Now see - THAT does make sense. I'll just keep my purdy, shiny CAI though. Love how it looks.

Annnd, now my 5.0 has a smoking problem. Its been kinda creeping up, needs new rings, but I've been putting it off. I may have one more summer out of her before we have to rebuild. Its a convertible, and US 75 is getting rougher by the day, so I've not driven 'er during the worst of the heat, and in a month or so she'll be garage kept till next spring, (or the rare warm winter day) so hopefully I can make it last a bit longer.

I may be picking some brains later...
