Default Is there a speed limited on the 5.0s

I tried searching on the web, but I can't get the clear answer for this. Has there been a limited on the 5.0 mustangs. Mine is a 1992 auto and it fails miserably at 120mph. It gets up there alright, but at 120mph it just hits the wall. I don't know why, at one point it even downshifted to D while I was sitting at 120mph. I was at 5000RPM in D and still not going anywhere.

So back to the question, was there any type of the limiter on the 1992 auto 5.0 ?

Thanks.

you dont have enough hp to pass 120mph. ive been 130mph in mine and i know others have gone faster. there is a rpm limiter tho.

I wouldent recommend trying to top out over drive with a AOD transmission. You will burn it up.

if you MUST hit 120+mph, take 3th "drive" as far as it will take you to be easyer on the trans

I thought there wars a limiter too when I got my car. No matter what the car wouldn't pull past a certian RPM. Put a BBK SSI intake on there and flew right past it.

5000-5500 is usually the limit on the rpm range in stock mode.

Thanks for the responses guys. This is my first 5.0 so I am not knowledgeable in the AOD workings or the top speed. 120mph just seemed way too low for the car. You probably are right regarding it running out of HP, the car is 100% factory stock so in the best case scenario I have 170WHP.

Ive hit 130+ in my car, but its a 5 speed... usually around 120-140 is where the foxbody cant go any faster... aerodynamics take effect there
