1986 Pros and Cons?
I might be buying a 1986 GT tomorrow, I'm familure with the sn95s but not as much with foxes ecspecially the 4 eyes. From what Ive read it is the first year for the fuel injection but I guess the intake or something is very restrictive? Also you cant use gt40 heads due to the flat top pistons? What heads could I just bolt on and go? Could I bolt on any gt40 intake or any other intake? Any issues I might have getting the 86 compared to a 87-93? The guy is just willing to trade for my truck and its a pretty good deal but just want to see what Id be getting into. Ive had an 88, 93, 94 and 95 so I'm semi familure with the 5.0s just would like imput thanks.

86 had flat tops and speed density, only two knocks against the 86. Stay with smaller valve heads and check piston to valve clearance with the stock cam and you should be okay. Plan a conversion to Mass Air if you do anything like cam/intake/head changes.
They were great cars and have as much potential as any of the EFI 5.0s...

stock for stock an SD car is faster then a MAF
but since these are made to be modified, no reason to compare stock, only heads I can confirm work are the TF twisted wedge heads, even then check PTV clearance, especially with aftermarket cam. And yes you can do a H/C/I swap with a SD system. If you wanna get crazy, megasquirt is an SD system.
