Default Whine, sounds like a supercharger...

I brought a Mustang 5.0, and I've put out around 300 miles on it now. Mostly hard launches, and drifting in rain.

However it seems that there is some sort of supercharger whine that is getting louder with higher RPMs, and I am noticing it in 1, 2nd gears, mostly, in city. Higher gears with up to 75 miles doesn't seem to make a noise, but I hadn't done very detailed testing, as I drive mostly in city with 35 mph speed limits

The sound is kinda like this , but not as loud.

Doesn't seem to happen in neutral or off-load. Only when you accelerate.

Could it be some sort of resonance, like the one you get when you put lightweight flywheel on DSMs? Or is this most likely some sort of transmission problem?

Also, how destructive drifting/5k RPM launching is on these cars? At what rate you're supposed to fix stuff if you drive like that?

The car is bone-stock '95 5.0 GT.

do yourself a favor... never compare the stang to your little rice burner.

also, post up a video of YOUR noise... its probably the bearings in your T5.

and if you want to drift, buy a 240sx...

What the heck is wrong with Mustangs and drifting?

It takes limited slip and some serious power to drift, and even those pity V6ers suck at that. Being able to drift means that you have a seriously powered car and not some riced up 1.6L Bimmer that spins one tire.

Heck for straight line, track-days and drags I will hop into my DSM any day. Mustang is about raw RWD power, burning rubber and sound of V8.

Very destructive. You dont USUALLY need to make major repairs like that on a stock car if its your DD, but at the rate it sounds like your pushing the STOCK drivetrain, probably VERY soon.

So what is going to break with that sort of:

Launching at 3k-5k RPMs -
1) Stock clutch?
2) Front cardans cross?
3) Gearbox?
4) Rear axles?
5) Differential?

Drifting -
1) Rear wheel bearings?

Do you guys have any good resources to read, like "Mustang upgrade path", "Launching Mustang" somewhere?

I went through an OEM clutch in 6 months with street tires and no traction until 3rd gear.
It went out within 20 miles of driving after putting on the supercharger.

my t-5 is still good though...one trip to the track would change that

dude its just not good for your car. I mean think about it its FIFTEEN years old, especially still with the stock drive-train something is bound to break. The stock clutch and components will probably need replacing. I'd say as long as your tires are breaking loose your not in that much trouble. Your still putting gradual unnecessary wear on your motor (and burning out tires), but thats your decision to do so. Just be prepared to be adding more and more motor oil.

But where's the fun in Mustang if you baby it?

So does anyone have any idea of which parts I will most likely have to replace and how soon?
