Default Operation Resto -- Rebuild thread...

Well This is going to be my build thread... I have a few Questions i would like to ask and hopefully by tomorrow i will have some pictures up of what i have done so far...

Well to those of you who don't know... i wrecked my baby, and i refuse to sell it. I'm going to rebuild the entire car. Stripping everything! I still am not sure what exactly the build will consist of... but for the most part it is going to be my weekend cruiser ocassional track vehicle. Thats right... i'm going to build it back up for ride comfort and track use. The main plans so far consist of...

New floor pans -- going to herculiner the top and bottom, cover in dynamat.
New hatch
New hood
New fenders
New fender aprons
New radiator support
New tranny
New rear end
New engine either stroker, or rebuild 302 with forced induction, unsure
New wheels - Fr500's
New brakes - Cobra R brake kit
New carpet
New seats
New suspension - quad shocks, shocks and struts
New k member
New control arms
New sound system

Basically new everything.

So far i have only removed the fenders... and started sanding away in some spots of the car... i haven't gotten very far.. i'm still upset about the whole accident happening in the first place. But i'm trying to stay positive about it all.. this way i get to rebuild it exactly how i want... with no deadlines... This is going to take a VERY long time... but i would like to be able to look back on it all again. So i figured i'd let everybody enjoy what i'll hopefully be enjoying somewhat..

Okay, to the questions!

I ended up literally ripping off my side skirts cause they got cracked from hitting the curb... never liked them anyway... the hack job of whoever put them on warped them so they never looked right.. and had expanding foam sprayed all up in them -_- but back to the question.... i found out the drivers side rocker panel has been smashed in at the very back... and it has some pretty bad rust on it... it might have a hole or to.. not exactly sure.. but i was wondering how much of a P.I.T.A it is to fix it... is it something i should have a shop do? or what... I'm by no means a body guy.. i'm 18, however i do have a friend that is an expert at it.. i'm sure he will help me through it all, but would it just be easier to take elsewhere??

Same with the floor pans... i have teh tools, just curious as to how much of a task it is?

Thanks for your time, i'll get pics of some progress up asap... but i need to find a camera first.

Sucks to hear that you have to get that car painted AGAIN lol. The body repair really isn't all that bad and if I were you I would do it myself just to get the satisfaction. Just takes practice on the welding part. Are you getting another set of sideskirts to put on it or are you going to just make it an LX?

Sucks to hear about your accident bro, look at it this way, atleast you still have a car to work with and it wasn't totaled.

IF I was you, which I'm not, I would swap everything into a 4 banger notch...

good luck man

this time, instead of a cobra clone, build a saleen clone. the saleen ground effects look much better than the GT junk anyway

Thanks guys... yeah, i really am disappointed with the paint in the first place.. it looked great at first, but the door bubbled when i went to Sugarland texas for like 2 weeks... and now i can see where they used to low of a grit sand paper so it has swirls and such.. and orange peel in a few spots.

I'm actually going to do all the prep work myself this time. I just need to take it up there so i can show him where its at... other wise he won't repaint it for free -_-

I'll for sure be shooting you a pm when it comes time for that tony, thanks btw. I've been needing new weather stripping really bad... when it rains it pours through my t tops so i avoided rain when possible...

Just so happens the main reason i lost control was lack of good tire tread, and it was raining -_- Stupid people upset me... still haven't found the people that pulled out invfront of me.. but i know lots and lots of people so i have a high chance of finding them.

Other than that, i have found quiet a bit of rust i thought got repaired in the fresh paint job, but apparently it didn't... so i've been working away at that. The frame looks really good though for the most part... just the inner passenger fender got collapsed and the front radiator support shifted and misaligned the driver fender apron. So i'm in the process of finding a driver side fender apron as well... can't seem to find one anywhere! But as far as i can tell no major frame damage, the doors are still lined up fairly well, slightly off but not terrible.

As for the welding, well i can weld somewhat decent i guess for an 18 year old, but it needs some major improvement lol.

Thanks again guys, still can't find my camera so i guess pics will have to wait for another time. I haven't really got much done.. i love working on it.. but its pretty tough knowing why i have to work on it. -_-

Edit--- I want a cobra clone lol.. idk why i love them so much.. i like the saleen don't get me wrong but i love the stance of the cobra's. ;D

and i might be doing a custom rear bumper... cobra bumper but i want to fill the little exhaust bumps... i'm running dumps right now so it looks kinda cheap haha.
The only reason i switched to dumps is cause i love the sound in car. And i was tired of the black marks the tips kept leaving on my new paint. -_-

Edit 2- I would just get another fox, but this is the car my grandmother helped me buy.. we are extremely close and i'm not sure how much longer she will be around. It is my first car, and i want to have it forever. And the fact i love that it is a t-top car... i more than likely won't find one around my area. I want to rescue this baby. It will be a pretty nice car when i get done, no matter what the cost. I know i will never get out of it what i'm putting into it money wise, but i will get more than that in return emotionally. Thats all that matters to me. And eventually it will be the weekend warrior, when i get my next car. Either a termi, wrx, or supra. =D

Thanks for the link... i found all the stuff i needed along time ago.. but i was to cheap to buy it.. don't like driving it in the rain in the first place, but they will be replaced soon.

Oh really? sweet, going to eventually be running 17x9 fr's up front and 18x10 in the back. I think it will give it an aggressive stance... could be wrong?

I wouldn't go with 18's personally. I would leave front and back in 17's but still have wide wheel out back. But 18's would be different...........
