Default Not a mustang.... but a 5.0 problem....

I know this is not about a mustang, but it is a 5.0 1996 Bronco.

Im asking you guy's because I know a few of you are a lot smarter then me, and own your own shop's and im sure have seen odd stuff like this.

My 1996 Bronco, 5 speed, has 172k miles, got it for $1800 so i looked over the mileage and it has been a good truck. In the last 6 month's the transmission seems to be getting worse and worse. It shifts fine, but you can tell the age. It also rattles, and makes all kind's of noise, but from what i can tell its external noise from something, cant tell.

Anyway, the shifting has been real "loose" feeling, and it seems to "clunk" more when i put it into gear as of late, so i thought the fluid might be low.

The last time any fluid was dealt with the trans was when I payed a shop to flush it out about 4 months ago. (only put about 500 miles on the truck in this time.)

The first problem is when i pulled the fill plug, almost a full quart of fluid came out. Way over filled......

This is the second problem........... the fluid looked like this

Why would the trans fluid look bubble gum pink, or look like pepto bismol.......

Im stumped. Only thing i could think is something is contaminating the fluid, but im not sure what it could be other then bit's of tran's parts breaking.

Ive never really owned anything other then Ford's, so IDK if other brand's use different color fluid, but this doesn't add up.

The shop was trustworthy, but its still a lube place.

any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Wow - that's.... just not right. I don't think. I even carried this out to the shop and showed my husband and our boat mechanic friend. Neither of them have ever seen transmission fluid look like that....

Looks like it either heavily aerated (sp) or got water in it.

Y'know - that would make sense. What if it wasn't overfilled with fluid, but that water is making up the difference? That WOULD explain the color and... apparent... frothyness of the fluid.

I guessing the tranny cooler in the radiator has a leak. Check the radiator for tranny fluid it would be at the top though it may only leak one way.

all good guesses.

Ive hit some big puddle's and ran the thing through alot of snow, but no mud boggin'.

I'll check the radiator, but for now im just going to flush the trans. Do the 5 speed's have tran's coolers? im unsure.

anyone else?

BTW, both me and my girlfriend aggree'd that the fluid smelled of coffee....... lol.
