Default voltage too high at tach sender on hei.

hey guys, i have an hei dizzy. the after market tach doesn't reg. it turns on but does nothing with the engine running. i checked the voltage at the tach sender with it running and got a full 12v. i know it should be between 1.5v and 5v. any clue as to why its at 12v?

Did the tach work before the melt down? Is it still the same dizzy since the meltdown?

not sure if it worked before. guy i got it from said it worked. but never got the motor fired before the meltdown.

what kind of aftermarket tach?? and how are you trying to pick up a tach signal?? neg side of coil is the side used.

no other car that i can test it on. the tach is an auto meter pro comp, the dizzy is an MSD HEI. connecting the tach to the tach output on the HEI.
