for carb'd engines, I always used a plate that bolted to the intake and for efi engines I either bolted the chain to the the last bolt on the intake on the pass. side and the first bolt on the drivers side

i used the bolt holes on the front side of the heads... because these locations arent as important as a intake gasket surface...

What did you bolt the chains to in the back of the motor?

they sell lift brackets for efi...or any motor for argument sake...that bolt into the headers location. the brackets are really tall so you can loop your chain through them or just lock em into the holes and it'll lift the whole motor out, then you dont have to wait time undoing the plenum and junk.

There are holes in the back just like there are in the front of the heads.

^^^ agreed!
Or if you still have the original lift plates for the engine that mount on the headers you could always use those

THis is how i did it, I removed the heads, thn usedthe head bolts for the chains (had to put some washers on the bolts to so the chain wouldnt slip over it. Didnt need to use any sort of level for this either, But if you do it this way with bellhousing still attached, there is more weight in the back then the front of the engine
