Default a few questions for a '83 mustang

alright so i just got a '83 5.0 yesterday as my first car. its pretty much stock but it runs great, it was also only $450! so i've got a question. will parts from newer foxbodies fit on my '83? i'm not talking about exterior stuff mainly engine and other mechanical parts.

heres some pics i took of it.

Those of us with '4-eyed' cars really have the best of both worlds. As long as you stay carbed, and it should be, you can use any of the later engine parts. Want a hyd. roller cam? You have to use the later block to do it easily but all the heads fit, oil pans fit etc.
One thing I'd look into pretty soon would be to upgrade the rear asxle to an 8.8" type...

Basicly, anything from 83-93 will fit with the correct parts.

right now the main thing i'm wondering about is the alternator. after i drove it home i went out to start it up and it wouldn't, but it did with the brand new battery out of my brothers car so we put my battery in his car and his car started just fine so it seems like the alternator might be bad in the mustang. would a 87-93 alternator work in an '83?

and i'm probably going to convert it from single exhaust to dual exhaust. what would you guys recommend? i was looking into the BBK long tube headers with the BBK shorty h-pipe, is that any good?

You have to get a dump hump cross member and the muffler hanger for the passenger side to run dual exhaust. If you are going to tun tail pipes you have to be careful with the brake line that connects to the rear end.

For the alt. It will work but you have to wire up the plugs for the newer alt. It isn't hard, I did it to my 83, but I don't remember what wires I connected to what. I just went off the schematics for each. You need to go have your alt checked and check your grounds on your car and clean them up.

i just got back from smogging the mustang and i failed the fuel evap test, fuel evaporative controls, and ignition timing. would those be the main reasons why the HC test was way higher then the max?(MAX: 141 @ 15mph MEASURE: 396 @15mph) and how do i fix those problems?
