Default tire/rim question.

Hey everyone,

I currently have a 1991 mustang GT. I have 1998 17x8 pony wheels with 245/45/17 all around. I have the front lowered around 1-2 inches, and have did a full weight reduction on the rear and the back has atleast 2-3 inches from the top of the tire to the fender. (alot of room)

My question is I plan to get Draglite tires, I want the biggest possible tire in the back, I have no quad shocks and it looks like the inside fenders have been beat already.

I was looking at the 15x8 wheels with 5.5 backspacing and Mickey thompson 275/50/15? Or 275/60/15??

Should I get the /60/ mickeys since there 2 inches taller? Since I have alot of space? (i have no back seat carpet or anything i removed alot of crap form the back of my car.

Thank you very much.

Pics of mickeys 275/50 or 275/60 on 15x8 draglite rim would be nice too.

might want to move some stuff form the front to the back (weight over the rear wheels = traction)

What gears do you have? The 2" taller difference in tire diameter will make a big difference in seat of the pants feel and get up. A 50 series tire is 26" tall where as the 60 is a 28. You'll have no problem w/ a 275 on an 8" rim w/ 5.5 b/s.

I have 3.73 gears. Will the 275/50/15 fill out the back good enough then? I don't want alot of space above the tire, you know?

Will the 275/50/15 on draglite 15x8 be taller than my 245/45/17 on my 17" ponys? (i know they will be wider.)

I'll post up some pics later when I have some time. I have pics w/ both sizes on my car. Are you going to be racing it? When I had my 3.73's in and ran 28" tires there was a noticable loss in my et. Went back to a 16" tire.

OK, my car sits at stock ride height.
Here's my car on Hoosier dr's. They are 275/50/15's. They measure just a tad under 26" tall

Here are the M/T ET drags, 26/10.5/15, 26" tall

Here are BFG dr's, 275/60/15, 28" tall.

Hope this helps

Do you have alot of weight in your back? Because I have about 3 inches above the tops of my back tires from the fender and it looks wierd. Do you think the 275/50/15 MT street radials on 15x8 draglites would fill them out really good? What is the biggest running 275/50/15 tire? I know nittos run really small so i dont wanna go with that.

Thanks so much for all the pictures, yea the /60/ look a tad big lol but if you have a lot of weight in the back thts y i think they look big to me not much space

also if i go to 4.10 with the 28" tall tires would that seem like 3.73s with the 26"?

And what is the backspacing on front/back and tire size on the front

I like how it looks

The 4.10/28" might offset it. I haven't run 28's w/ the 4.10's yet. I'm pretty happy w/ my combo right now.

The fronts are 15x3.5 w/a 1.75" b/s. 165x15" tires. The rears are 15x8 w/a 5.5 b/s.

The only thing in the trunk is the battery and a sub box. Post up some pics of your car so we can see your ride height.

I think the mickeys run pretty large comparatively in size. I'm running those now on a 10" rim. I don't have any pics of those though and they do rub a lil in turns and on harsh bumps. In retrospect I should have stayed w/ a 8" rim for the street.

well i can't get a picture right now, but the tops of the tires are exactly 3 inches from the bottom of the outer fender, it looks really spacy.

Do you have rear seats? I took everything out of my mustang in the back, seatbelts, cotton crap, carpet tire sub seat it looks rly plain.
