Default 87-93 Mustangs, broken ashtray door

I bought a new ashtray door.Is there an easier way of installing the new one without having to remove the whole center console to put the door in? I thought this was going to be a 5 minute job...........lol

pop off the black plastic surround around the shifter, pop off the oval covers that hold the center arm rest off, unbolt the 4 bolts, remove the center arm rest. remove the 4 screws holding the top of center console off, slide off around ebrake... unplug the electrical connections....

then use the late model resto repair kit, done and done, you never need to fix it again

took me 10 mins then half an hour to fix the door, then 10 mins to re install

I just recently did this myself. There is NO WAY possible to do it without removing the center console.. But it only really takes 5 minutes

Are you guys having trouble closing the ashtray door? Mine just recently is giving me problems and wondering if this is the culprit everyone is talking about here.

the spring probably broke, or the cheap plastic the console is made out of may have cracked where the spring hooks in. buy the late model resto repair kit, solves the problem for good
