Love that car and those Valve covers on it I need some to replace my boring stock looking 302 valve covers.

I bought it new in October '83 and have had it since day one. I don't have pictures of the interior but it's much different than this particular '83. I haven't driven it in several years and it only has 40,000 miles on it. It has a built motor, hooker headers, flowmaster mufflers, 4.10 gears (which were a mistake). I've just decided to go over it and get it ready to drive again. In '83-'84 a Capri driven by Tom Gloy won the SCCA Trans Am championship and I had to have one. So one evening in October '83 I drove past the Lincoln Mercury dealership and a car hauler was sitting in the lot with two of them they hadn't unloaded yet. One red with t-tops and mine. The very next day I was there when the dealership opened.
Beautiful car I like the airdam they added too the 84 - 86. I'm trying to find some basket weave mesh wheels for mine. I have 2 16x7" 4 lug Enkeis it's just locating 2 more.
After doing a bit of research, the seats in mine are not the proper seats. They did offer similar seats in the Capri but, my DD interior trim code should be the low-back buckets and it would have the one piece fold down. I also know these had to come from a Mustang because they did not have the netted halos Mercurys came with.

Got most of the wiring issues under the hood cleaned up so getting closer to making it street worthy again.
These are the wires going to the coil, distributor, oil pressure, water temp etc.

I had to cut out most of the original wires and soldered in new wire where needed, more than half the wire. Shrink wrapped the joints then rewrapped with the type of electrical tape used in aircraft harnesses.

Mine has the low back buckets with a headrest and split folding rear seats. Looks like you had a mess with the wiring but glad to see you're getting it sorted out. I've actually began going through catalogs getting ready to order some parts and pieces for mine. It shouldn't need much more than maintainance items to get it running. Thanks for posting the part number for the in tank fuel filter. That'll be one of the first parts ordered.
