Some questions about F303 cam
Some info about where I'm at with my build. Pulled my engine, which I thought was the original 1992 5.0L motor. Blew it apart and sent it up to the machine shop to get it cleaned and the crank turned down. Machinist calls me and ask if I knew for sure that it was a '92 motor, which I didn't since I didn't check the casting numbers...First mistake on my part. He said he was fairly certain that the engine was a pre-1980 5.0L block...FML. I has just assumed that it was the original motor. Second mistake was to go ahead and order everything I need for my rebuild, including the f303 cam and lifter package and that includes the spider. I know it's not the best performing cam out there, but I wanted something a little more then stock since I'm using the thing as a daily driver...At least I will be.
Now, onto my questions. I know the cam will physically fit in the block, but I heard that the new roller lifters won't work with the older block since they didn't come with hydraulic rollers from the factory. I heard that they would stick way out of the bores and cause all sorts of issues. I forgot where I saw this last night, and I can't find it for the life of me. Just wondering if there was any truth to that, and why wouldn't it work with the conversion kit? Couldn't I just get shorter pushrods if that were the case?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply man. I know it didn't have roller lifters in it simply because I tore it apart and they're sitting in my shop as we speak. I'm still learning a lot about these 5.0's and mustangs in general too, so I couldn't spot the difference between the later and earlier blocks. I'm mostly a Pontiac guy who's slowly being converted...some of you might know what that's like.
I also don't want to put the cam it came with back in for a few reasons. 1) I have no idea what it is since the motor has been rebuilt by a former owner and 2) several of the lobes looked a little tired and I wouldn't want to have to tear the front of my motor apart to redo the cam a few months down the road.

These are your lifter choices if you wish to do NO work to the block to make the OEM style lifters fit.

However, if you want to use OEM style roller lifters, you need to drill and tap the two holes in the lifter valley where the spyder bolts down.

So the lifters that came with the hydraulic roller conversion kit (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CMB-09-0021/) will work with stock length pushrods as long as I have the spider bolted on, correct?
