Best way to mount a shifter knob?

Default Best way to mount a shifter ****?

ok so i have been dreading posting this for awhile now, i feel like a dumby but here it goes. what is the best way to mount a shifter **** to a shifter? i have tried a few diff ways but none seem to be correct there must be a simple way? also is there a trick to getting the shifter boot to also stay tight to the ****? thanks mike

anyway to get it to line up? also is there a way to keep the shifter boot snug to the ****? i think some of the problem was that my old shifter was a chinese chepo from ebay. i am about to put my tranny bck in with the new shifter on.

there is supposed to be a jam nut that goes on under the ****. you align the **** straight, then tighten the jam nut

no, the jamb nut goes above the boot...the boot can only go so far down on the shifter handle. then you thread the jam nut all the way down, and screw the handle down until its as far down as you can make it go, while still being straight. Then you tighten the jam nut up under it.
