Default Need new engine in my 88 gt, any suggestions?

Hi all!, I'm trying to figure out the best way & cheapest way to either rebuild or just swap out my 5.0 H.O. Can I put a long block from a 88 T-bird in there? Were they a H.O. motor? Will a non-H.O. 302 work? I need some advise, good or bad. lol Thanx!

no, cam must carry h.0/351 firing order, t-bird motor = non h.o , you have SEFI = injectors fired in sequence in accordance with firing order

Which means if you use a Tbird motor you need to put a H.O. cam in it for it to work.

BUT if its not a HO motor then the heads are also e6 heads and are worse than the stock e7 heads. The short block will work though but I think the pistons are also different so the compression ratio is slightly lower too.

^ Well, I know I've got a HO sitting in the 91 T bird out at my grandmas house. 100% certain. So they did do it in 91 anyway. We're gonna be putting it into a notch for my brother.

I think the H.O was used starting in 90 on the Tbirds and Cougars
