3.73's or 4.10's
My next mod is going to be getting either 3.73 gears or 4.10's. I'm leaning towards 3.73's becuase they are more street friendly. I don't want my gas mileage to get worse than it already is. Just wondering though what you guys think is better for my 95' GT. Also what would be the total cost of installing the gears? budget is pretty tight. Thanks

373 are a great all-around street gear....noticeable acceleration difference and gas mileage is not entirely compromised....however, 4.10s would be the better choice if you do not mind shifting all the time, or have no problem continually buying rear tires

thanks Dr. JZ. i wouldnt mind the shifting at all, but the tires part is a def set back haha. considering i have 275's on mine and replacing them constantly would set me back quite a bit. I can't have gas compromised too much so i think 3.73 is the only option for me. Also will a new trans gear for the speedo be required? and what about the bearing kits?

AWESOME answer based on nothing but the color of your fecal deposit from dinner !!!!!
have you ever even driven a car with a gearset other than stock ?
exactly WHAT mathematical theory did you base this on ???
the rpm diff in shifting is a whole 250 rpm......
if that raised rpm causes you you to "continually" buy new tires...then you should stick with your honda accord that "kills" mustangs
honestly people...... my @$$hole doesnt have teeth let alone lips.....
SO I DONT TALK FROM IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4.10 is your best gear for drag racing, you'll lose 1 mpg tops from the 3.73 choice....but the leverage is LITERALLY the difference from yanking tires on a stock 5.0... to NOT yanking tires on a stock 5.0 and bogging a bit too

what trans? what year ? aod cannot be fixed, and a '91 and newer t5 cannot be fixed for 4.10

@explosive. I do alot of driving from the 40mph to 55mph range. So that's why i'm thinking 3.73's. @nitrous bob- i have a '95 GT with a stock T-5 tranny so does that mean i can't get the 4.10's??

I pull good at 55 mph in 3rd with a T5, It's just one of those things where I always think man it pulls good now I wonder how 4.10's would feel.

I think youd like the 3.73's. drives nice pulls decently and I can blow the tires off with ease.

no...it just means means you cannot fully correct your speedo
not without a teardown that is.
your '95 has a 8t drive gear (plastic ring gear c-clipped ont he OP shaft) so even with the NON ford 23t driven (the white 23t gear is from jeep and the wrong pitch) it's still off roughly 10 %
im right with you my '93 is off too. if you ever rebuild, get a 6t(black) drive gear and then you can correct it 100%
otherwise you overread....which adds miles you never drove

I have 3.73's because I bought into the same BS that you are hearing about gas mileage, and shifting.. and blah blah blah....
Soon I will be installing either 4.10 or 4.56 gears. depending on my tire choice.
*edit* there is no need to do a "teardown" to replace a speedo drive gear. All you need to do is remove the tailshaft housing. I have a spare T5 hanging around at my house. I'll do a How-To when I get home (2-3 weeks)
