Default Engine Block indentification

Did Ford ever produce a blue block 302? I didn't think they did but then again what do I know. What color block was the Boss 302?

What years were the 351W's blue?

blue was the traditional color for all the v8 engines made from 68 -81 in 82 the engines went to battleship grey. Later they stopped painting them all together and left then in bare steele

Okay... (haven't opened your link yet... but reading your message, now I'm curious... b/c my block is blue (and it is CLEARLY not re-done). I tried for my life to get a look at the freeze plugs earlier but I just cant. Too cramped - headers in the way, just can't see. I'll pull out the wifes car tomorrow and jack her up and take a look...

So, no 5.0 block that was blue... boy did my stomach just turn (in a good way lol)

If your wondering if you have a boss , you need to remove the starter and look for the block numbers. 1969 is C9ZE C8FE 1970 is CDOZE-B
That's the only real way to tell if its a Boss . Yes the Boss had screw in type freeze plugs but those could also be added to a Windsor block by someone later on in its life.

Didn't a 351W have 3 plugs per side? Versus 2 for the Boss?

Nope all the v8's have 3 plugs along the sides. If you think you have a 351 the intake is a lot wider on the 351 than the 302

dawson1112 is 100% correct on this as far I know.
Got to remember that guys rebuilding things are apt to paint anything any color.
When I raced MOPARS (25years) I needed some paint real bad and a Ford friend of mine gave a couple cans of Ford blue, worked real good,LOL........
