Just wanted to share the fender stripes....they look ok from far but up close you can see the bubbles. I fabricated the stripes from a big piece of stickie vinyl. check it!!

Looks nice...the bubbles are probably from not using enough soap (slip solution) in the water before mounting the stripes.

Is there some sort of history or backing behind these? The F-Body crowd here in Baton Rouge is notorious for these...

WTF... no wonder! I did not remember that! Sh....!! It was $8 for the roll so ill just re-do it correctly..., any other tips..? I didnt even use water.., i just cut them and stuck em on..lol.

Thanks guys!

These are called pit stripes!! The fender stripes are known as FIA stripes. They were first used on a Cobra (CSX2128) at the 1963 Sebring FIA race. The stripes were painted on 2128 to distinguish it form the other team Cobras (all black painted body's) that were racing. The color chosen for 2128 was yellow. It started with the race cars.

I think they look good. I like the Idea of the little custom touches you do your self it make it your own and no other like it.

I did mine when I sprayed the hood. I used black paint and taped it all off though . I still need to wet sand it again and apply some more clear because it was way humid when I did the clear coat and the gun started to plug up on me .

Yeah definitely use water. I screwed up the vinyl letters on my bumper before a friend finally said to spray it with water. Use a squeegee if you can to help the air pockets, thats what I used but my letters are smaller than those stripes lol

You can use J&J Baby shampoo as a slip. Try mixing about a 1-2 teaspoons of soap in a 1 quart sprayer. You can test with some scraps on the vehicle to adjust your slip solution before install. Theres plenty of info on vinyl installs on Tintdude.com., check it out..
