Default 15 Year Old Hopeful w/ a Question

Hey guys, I'm Tom. Just thought I'd stop by here to ask a (probably) common question. I get my license in April of 2014, and If I get high honors all throughout high school (just finished the second semester of my 1st year, success!) I can get a car of my choice. I really want a 94-95 5.0, and I would like get a rough estimate for what insurance would cost me at the age of around 17-18. If it helps, the cars my parents own right now are an 07 Focus SE, 07 Edge SEL+ AWD, and a 2002 Explorer AWD. That is as of now though. Could you guys help me out? It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

My car at the time would be the Edge, so if the insurance isn't that much more expensive, it would be great. (Even though I live in Pennsylvania...snowy.)

Get your parents to put you on their insurance as the driver of whatever car is the cheapest to insure. Then buy the 5.0 and put your mom or dad on that as the primary driver. I'm sure that your insurance agent would've told you that. I think that's a pretty standard way of doing it.

That's what I've heard before. Would insurance be $200/month or more around 400? And Thank you, by the way.

You need to talk to you're parents insurance agent. Truly that is the only way to know for sure. I can only guess due to your age and the type of car it is, it is not going to be cheap.

Cost is going to depend on too many things for us to judge. Your agent will be able to help you out there.

The best way to get answers for that is to get insurance quotes online from all the major insurance companies.. A lot of variables go into what your premium would be.. However, if the car is in your parents name and you're added as a driver, getting a good student discount and a defensive driver discount it wont be that expensive, especially since I imagine you would get liability (no real reason to get full coverage on a 94-95).

IMO I would have them add you as a driver. 18 driving a sports car is not gonna be cheap by yourself. You can always pay them the difference. make sure you take drivers ed course while in school. That will help out with the $$$

At the age of 16 with a 87 5.0, my insurance was only 60 bucks a month with good student and driving school discounts.

have your parents insure it in their name...and do not add you as a driver..when you have insurance anyone driving your car should be insured already so insurance should not need to know....drive safe ...i did this with my girls and told them if they get a ticket where they are at fault they will need to get their own insurance at a ridiculous rate...needless to say they were very careful and everything worked out fine..
