Question performance bolt on

Hi
I am new to the forum so here we go. I have a 1993 GT 5.0 5speed. 33k orig miles all stock nad orig equipment since 93. specs from what i can see are 225 hp and 300lb/ft tq. I was thinking of adding a 040L vortek supercharger. Is it really worth doing ? I do not wish to change anything on the car, heads, intake , and so on. This car is mint un-molested and will remain that way. I did hear that the vortek is a good product with results. Can anyone verify if adding this alone will make a big change

Thanks Bill

If you go the s/c route you'll have to go up in injector size from stock 19# to at least 30 or 42#s. You'll also need a 255lph fuel pump and larger injector rails. You'll probably gain 50 horses but you can't go overboard on the boost or you'll blow that stock motor.

Vortech makes good blowers, but if you ONLY add the blower you're only going to get about 75rwhp out of it before you exceed the limitations of other parts, like the fuel system.

My recommendation is to do whatever mods you want to do to it. You only live once!

BTW, I bought an '89 LX with 42k miles from the original owner a few years ago, almost completely stock. I've modded the crap out of it. Because like I said, you only live once!

Any S/C on that car that only makes a 50HP increase would be a waste of time/money IMO.......

the 5-6 psi kit is what I assume you are looking at......it'll put you at around 275 rwhp and uses an fmu for added fuel needed for such an upgrade, any more boost than that and look into fuel system upgraded, I don't like the fmu set up, I think it's a bandaid for an inadequate fuel system to begin with, but it'll work for low levels of boost.

Default vortek

Thanks for all the information. The unit I looked at was rated at 8-10 psi. According to the Vortek Rep they say it is a better choice over the 6 psi trim unit. They also say that it can be bolted on with out any other mods such as injectors, heads, fuel pump and so on. I understand at high rpms and full loads fuel management would be an issue. For a quick blast through the gears they are saying things would be fine and normal driving not compromised

your thoughts
