Default Gear Change?

okay guys....

So I am dropping in a T56 Magnum into my fox.

Gearing is...
2.97/2.07/1.43/1.00/.74/.50

Tire is 25 inch diameter right now..

I cant decide what rear gears to go with...

The car will be a street/strip car and eventually I will be swapping in a coyote motor.

I calculated that with a 4.56 I will run 2300 RPM at 75 mph

33 mph in 1st would be 6000 RPM
47 mph in 2nd would be 6000 RPM
68 mph in 3rd would be 6000 RPM
98 mph in 4th would be 6000 RPM

41 mph in 1st would be 7200 RPM
59 mph in 2nd would be 7200 RPM
85 mph in 3rd would be 7200 RPM
122 mph in 4th would be 7200 RPM

So that seems like too much shifting to run a good time... Even with the coyote with a 7200 RPM redline I wouldn't want to shift into 5th...

Ill have a 26 inch slick / radial when drag racing so that gives me these speeds in 4th...

Using a 4.3 rear end Ill hit 6000 RPM at 108 mph in 4th
7200 RPM w/ coyote gets to 130 mph in 4th

Using 4.10 rear end Ill hit 6000 RPM at 114 mph in 4th
7200 RPM w/ coyote gets to 136 mph in 4th

Using 3.90 rear end ill hit 6000 RPM at 119 mph in 4th
7200 RPM w/ coyote gets to 143 mph in 4th

Using 3.73 rear end ill hit 6000 rpm at 125 mph in 4th
7200 RPM w/ coyote gets to 150 mph in 4th

I don't think going any lower to a 3.73 will do any good. The 6th gear is a 0.50 so I will have good highway mph even with a 4.56 rear gear, especially with the coyote.

So what do you all think?

Well I think we all maybe confused now so many inconclusive points. What about a 3.45 gearset!

uh.... read it again... I am trying to decide on the highest I should go. Why in hell would I do a 3.45? The lowest i would go would be 3.73, but that seems too low as well.

Well uh there is no defined setup, want, primary use, etc etc.... tire hieght you mentioned 2 so that's another guess. Here is a do, tack the ratios on a dart board through a dart pick the one it lands on!

I'd use a 28" tall tire anyway, pretty much a known fact that tall tires work better on launch.......

For the track, the simple idea is to match your expected terminal speed at the end of the quarter with your top speed in either 3rd or 4th, depending on the speed.

I get that but I have NO idea what to expect out of a coyote swap 88 hatch, with a T56, long tubes, no cats, 3 inch piping, aluminum driveshaft, boss intake manifold, cold air intake, and a bit of a 91 octane tune...

This is the problem.... I am leaning towards 4.10s now due to 130 mph in 4th being plenty...

I dont want to beat my fenders in, so 26 inch tire....

Ok pay close attention here...

Coyote Swap 88 hatch...

Street for fun, but built for fast at the 1/4 strip....

Mods on coyote will be T56 tranny....

longtubes, x pipe no cats, 3 inch all exhaust, 1 piece aluminum DS, 91 octane tune, cold air intake, boss intake manifold...

26 inch slicks for the 1/4 mile because I dont have the urge to beat in my fenders yet...

i mentioned 25 because that is what I run on the street...

Oh ok I got it! I stick with the dart board....... with the right wheel u can use a taller tire. Just not real wide. 26in tire and 3.73 4.10 4.56 your 1,2 gears will be useless! You would get a nice cardio day at the track though!
