Question Should I buy 95 GT?

I never been much of a ford guy, when I was a teen I had alot of 60's model shortblock chevy cars I worked on.

Recently I bought an 07 crown vic for dirt cheap and the 4.6 mod was pretty decent to work on. I gutted the cats, installed thrush chambered mufflers, 3.5" tips, replaced PI intake, polished TB, installed stallion torque converter and was pretty surprised how the 4.6 got this big sled moving.

Anyway... was going to get a cowl hood and paintjob on the vic but the old lady took it out in a ice storm and slid the back end into a pole. Trunklid is folded, bumper crushed, trunk trunk frame bent and both rear quarters have slight dimples in them now.

Stumbled across a jet black 95 mustang GT on craigslist, under 100k miles, auto trans (better for my bad knee anyway) dealer maintained, very clean. He is asking $3700 but was thinking of trying to get it for 3500.

Questions.... I know this year puts out around 200hp.... my 07 vic was putting out around 260+ but was a huge sled so wondered if I will notice the GT being quicker or slower off the line WOT?

I will be adding different rear end gears, cam, intake, heads, cold air, etc as time and funds allow (might take a year or so) but in the meantime just wondered if it will be a slug compared to driving the 07 vic while its still stock.

Anything in particular to look out for when/if I go check this car out?

Also... I have some cobra bullit rims with wide rears off of a 05+ mustang that I had on the crown vic... any idea if they will fit the 95?

Thanks guys

The mustang will be faster then a crown vic. 3500 for a clean 95 is a good price. Same size wheels for the sn95 as the s197 so no problem with wheel fitment.

Went and drove the 95 gt, It looks really clean... i dont know if i can post pics being a new member but its black and looks pretty much like the pic you posted bluebeast.

Didnt start on first crank but its like -10 degrees out so thats understandable i guess.
Low coolant light was on which is odd cause he said he just put new radiator in.
Heard some creeks from front left suspension, opened her up and wasnt impressed at all... my vic would walk this thing no problems (07 4.6 interceptor, PI intake, Polished plenum, PI stallion torque converter, Cat delete/duals/Thrush 2 chambers/3.5" tips, close to 200k miles)

I dont know if it needs a tuneup or what but was very much a slug compared to my vic.
It really sucks cause I want a nice stang to build on (cam, heads, intake etc.) but really figured a 5.0 would be at least as fast as my sled vic 4.6 PI

The kid was very honest and seemed reputable. Said he worked for a garage and that we could go in the morning and throw it on a lift if i wanted to check it out.

I just want to make sure i get something that isnt opening a can of worms.
Just dont know what to do now.

IDK, I had a 95 GT for only about 6-7 months. It wasn't bad for the time, 215hp but needs some mods to wake it up. Mine was the worst car I ever had for winter driving, but then again it I don't think it had traction control and I think it had summer tires since it had the 17" wheels.

They're a nice upgrade to the Foxbody not bad cars 95 was the last year for the 5.0 than they went to the 4.6 and years later back to the 5.0 again !

The 95 Mustangs are heavier than the earlier ones.
For that kind of money I don't think it's a bad deal however.
You need to remember those cars had no gears from the factory, that would be the first thing I would change.
BTW, why not swap the engine from the Crown Vic into it?

i love mine. And that seems like a good price for the miles and everything. Id say pick it up and start the mods. You will like it im sure.

This sounds like a good idea till you start looking into what's needed. The 94-95 5.0 uses a different sub frame than the 96-98 4.6, so you'd have to have the entire subframe and motor mounts from the 96-98 GT for starters. I'm not positive but the 96-04 might be the same.

He's got the motor and wiring and computer so he's set on that. Prolly the most expensive parts.

What rear is in the Vic? Is that an 8.8? If so I'm sure it's got a better gear ratio and much better shape limited slip in it. Might can find a machine shop to swap internals pretty cheap.

My 94 only has 3.08's and very basic bolt ons at the moment but she scoots for what it is. Manual helps with that a bunch though.

If you swap the motor and trans from the Vic to the mustang you should be able to get a tuner to adjust the shift points in the computer a bit. That will wake it up.

This thread is old but I still had a nice long reply about how you should buy that car and how it would completely crush that Crown Vic turd... Then the forum logged me out for no reason...

So... I HOPE YOU BOUGHT THE CAR!
