Default Oil Gague Question -

Hey guys, I'm kinda new to the whole 5.0 thing, so here's what I have

1988 Mustang GT - Stock

From what I understand, the oil sending unit on these engines is more of a "switch", in that it sends a signal when there's > 8psi, or zero, is this true?

I just want to know how much faith to put in the position within the normal range on my car.

Any help ya'll can furnish is greatly appreciated.

So, for anyone who actually cares to respond, I'd really like to know what's going on, and I'd really appreciate it, in fact I'd be willing to buy pizza for anyone who can help me out with this. If it's something I need to get worked on, I'd like to know so I can drop it off as soon as possible.

So please, let me know what you think about the idle/oil pressure from the following videos.

I couldn't play those vids on my phone for some reason, but don't trust the stock gauges. Not accurate at all. Save your money from that pizza and get a decent gauge mounted up, it's money well spent.

My stock gauge reads a bit higher than that at just over half way, but my engine is a fresh rebuild with a high flow oil pump.
I don't think yours is low , but the only sure way to know is to get a good aftermarket mechanical gauge that can show you the PSI.

Well, when the car first starts up, it stays slightly above half way, probably 9/16, until it warms up.

the videos I posted were after it fully warmed up, and at idle. At cruising speed, it goes back up to the 9/16 position and stays there.

From what I have gathered, this is somewhat normal behavior, but I would like confirmation from others before driving it any more

oil pump rotation is dependant on engine rpm......at idle = less rpm = less pump rotation =decreased pressure = lower gauge reading as rpm goes up so does everything else and as engine temp goes up = oil thins out = gauge reads less in all the above scenarios
