I'm about to order some gears and I need a little help. Right now the car has 2:73 gears. If I go to 4:10 will that make it wind out on the highway or should I stick with 3:73?

4.10's will be fine, hardly any difference between 3.73 vs 4.10 rpm wise if you plan to race it, don't fear the gear

Any higher numbered gears will cause higher rpms on the highway... the higher (larger numbers) the gears the more rpms to go 65 mph.

Tires size will also influence the rpms... larger diameter is less rpm at 65 ...

Check out this calculator and figure it out using 3.73 and 4.10 -
I would start with your current 2.73's to prove the rpm you are seeing now.

With stock sized 15" tires the diameter is 27.4:

2.73 at 65 mph is 1523 rpm
3.73 at 65 mph is 2081 rpm
4.10 at 65 mph is 2288 rpm

Unless you are going be "racing" this car - you will notice lower fuel mileage,
higher noise from the engine

I like my 2.73's as these little 302 HO's are not race cars, just nice drivers.

Having had gears up as high as 5.12 on the street with no OD, I do not like
the high cruising rpms - maybe with a six speed and a OD of .50 or so.....

Cruising around 2000 rpm is OK.... or 3.73's max = my "opinion"

Just drive the car in/out of OD, run it to 65 at each of the "new rpms" and
you can see what the car will sound like....
