Default trans fluid change (is royal purple worth the $)

Ok so I am about to change the fluid and filter in my 95 gt. Is it worth the extra $$ to use royal purple? If there is actual gain from it I have no issue spending the money but I could use that money on something else.

What fluid are you using?

Yes. As someone who has used this in several cars, it definitely seems to cut friction and chatter at higher RPMs.

pure waste of money.........all royal purple is, is a synthetic fluid with purple dye, I'd choose amsoil over it any day(better detergent packages and friction modifiers)......if your gt is an auto equipped car, then changing the trans fluid in it with royal purple is truly a pure waste as all you can do is drop and change what fluid is in the pan, you still have what's left in the torque convertor, lines and internals in trans full of fluid, to do it right a trans flush is what you need, most flush machines will use 12-16 quarts.........still wanna use royal purple?? If you just do what's in the pan, it's just gonna be mixing what's in there....kinda like playing in a mud puddle and dumping fresh water into it, hoping it'll be clear afterwards, IMO, just use a quality dex3/mercon fluid if just dropping the pan.

MJR... That is pretty well what I was thinking. I plan on draining the converter but I haven't decided yet if I want to flush the cooler and lines yet.

excellent advice, I sell this stuff in the store. Slow moving product. Stay with the basics and save your money.

I run John Deer Hygaurd in all my auto trans. or Case Hytran. Everything from AODEs to C4s works great.

LOL yes sir. Good stuff for sure. Got just a few people laughing at me about it but it works well. Also been done before I started doing it years ago. Drops trans heat no Friction modifiers so when it changes gear it hits with less slippage. And the shear strength is very high. The one thing I dont like about it, is it dont burn real easy good and bad due to it not changing colors if it overheats. So you have to pay attention to the trans to tell you when you are in trouble or have a trans temp. gauge even better. But that is more when you are racing and running back to back runs. Yes, it works very well in a D/D also. Works very well when running a trans. break so far, but we are still looking at that on one of my new builds for a customers C4. I also used it in my sons AODE and it worked great in it. it use to shudder when the converter locked up it fixed that also for years, but it did come back and now will need a rebuild but the car has over 200k on it. I am sure.

I just posted yesterday asking this same question. The previous owner of my mustang insists that I continue using Royal purple.. Which I have and have no problem with it, but wondered what the real difference is.
