Tremec 3550

Tremec 3550
I have a '67 Mustang with a 410 hp / 438 lb torque. I've had an issue with the transmission locking up after "pushing" the RPM's over 4500-5000.
I'm told the T5 I have isn't strong enough to handle my motor.
Also told I need the Tremec 3550 because that WILL handle it..
your opinions please??
Thanks.

Yeah, that's probably pushing the limits of a stock T5. But there's guys that have taken stock T5s in the 10s. If your not aggressive with the shifting, they can hold quite a bit of power. You can also rebuild them with aftermarket internals that will easily handle your power. I don't know what's involved with the 3550 swap, but a good T5 rebuild is going to be cheaper. Just my opinion.
