What ECU to use w/ 88 Cali car wire harness
I am building a 5.0 for my Miata. It's an 86 block. 88 pistons. TFS stage 1 cam. 93 Cobra heads and intake. A basic budget build. I got a wire harness out of an 88 GT from California. You may know that the GTs sold in cali in 1988 were mass air. It is not like a 90-93 harness but more like a speed density harness converted to mass air.
Can I put an A9L or A9P on the harness? I don't want to drop $200 on a computer just to burn it up.

If it's a mass air harness, both those computers will work, are you 5-speed or auto? I can't remember which one is which, but the auto computer will work fine with a T5, a T5 computer will not work with a AOD.
Also, Autozone, Advance etc carry reman'd ECMs for $100 around me.

A9L= manual. A9P= auto. My application is a T5 so I don't care which one I use as long as my harness is pinned for it.
There are weird tricks with these harness es. For instance, I put an alternator from a 89 onto my 86 and blew the ecu. I don't want this kind of nonsense to happen again. I would get a copy of the pin out but I don't want to cut up my professionally loomed harness.

Did some looking on Alldata and the wiring diagram for the 88 shows special highlighted areas that say California only. Those sections are the same on the 89 diagram just not highlighted. I would think you would be okay with the A9L or A9P but not completely sure.
