this poor thing needs a little body work but I'm afraid there's more structural issues seeing the bumper and box
any input?

3500 for a pickup, ANY pickup, is pretty cheap. On one hand that kind of worries me, on the other hand, it's 3500 bucks, can't hurt you too bad.
If it was in my neighborhood I'd take a look. Boxes can be replaced pretty easy, and the whole thing needs paint, so take that into consideration.

looking at it and the fact that it's a lightning that cheap worries me a bit but at the same time it's a $3500 lightning I just don't want to take my time (and gas) to find out there's more underlying problems

lol....one new front rotor......if someone is to cheap to do 2 rotors and do the brake job right, you can bet your bottom dollar they've half azzed a lot more stuff on the truck, run and run fast!!!

I don't see the harm in going to look. Take someone that knows mechanical stuff with you and take it for a long test drive. I recently bought a 91 F150 4X4 to haul the race car for 2 grand. It needed brakes and it'll need ball joints but everything worked on it down to the cig liter. And a lot of the stuff is cheap to fix if you do it yourself. Once in a great while you'll get lucky and find a good deal.
