"Death Trap" my new 84 GT build thread

Took off the carb to rebuild it, even with it completely disassembled it wouldnt fit in the carb dip bucket, need to pick up another container to put it in.
Battery definitely needs to go.
Can detonation occur only at certain RPM/loads? Last time I drove it I heard the telltale rattle from the engine area at certain RPMs. Ill check the timing once the carb is back on.

Yes, detonation occurs whenever it wants. I'd just back the timing down a couple degrees till you get her running good.
Thanks for the tip on that Earthquake impact. I've actually been looking at that one, but picked up a 3/4" MAC impact for $50 of Craigslist. Crossing my fingers its not worn out.
And good luck on the carb rebiuld, it's been many many years since I did one, but remember it being kinda fun.

good luck! I looked at 3/4 impacts but I already have multiple sets of 1/2" impact sockets so Id need to buy new ones. Make sure to oil it before and after each use session. Should zip any bolts off your notch no problem if its in good shape internally.
Its been years since my last carb rebuild on the 67, had it rebuilt at a local place (The Carb shop) and they did an amazing job, including adding electric choke, but i figured id save $200 and DIY on this one. Everything smelling like gas for a day or so sucks tho haha.

Awesome work man! Ill be ripping the rear control arms off my 88 over the winter here, hopefully they wont be as difficult as yours look.
I will also be beginning a 5 lug conversion this winter (already got the 94 roller). I will be sharing that on this forum as I work through it. Glad someone else is building same time as me!
