I have a 93 cobra spec t5 its a 249 tag number. Its in a 1966 mustang

I rebuilt the trans because it was very difficult to shift into 1st gear....other than that it worked great. Upon inspection the fist gear dogs were worn about half way down and 2nd gear was also pretty bad.

I got the master rebuild kit a new 1st and 2nd gear and a new 1 / 2 slider.

After the rebuild the trans worked flawless for about 3000k miles then every once and a while it would jump out of 2nd... like maybe every 70 shifts....then it was every 30 shifts then every 10 shifts then every other shift. It went from jumping out once to jumping out every other shift in about a month. but had no issues at all for the first 3k.

I took the trans out and inspected it...It looked just like it did after the rebuild. Its still bran new. So I took the output shaft cluster to a shop that I trust and had them inspect it...maybe I screwed something up during the rebuild...They said it looked fine..I had them replace the 2nd gear syncro and the slider tabs and springs....I know I replaced the syncro but Im not sure if I replaced the tabs and springs on the slider.

The shift forks, plastic tabs on the forks and the steel shift plates that fit on the shift rod are all perfect.

Im using a steeda triax shifter and I made sure the stops were set properly...You could pull back pretty hard on the shift lever and still slide a piece of paper between the stop and the shift lever..


I am still waiting for parts to arrive at the shop so I dont know if the new syncro will help yet.

your not new........you should know better about the double thread deal rule......1 thread not 1 in each section
