I'm a geezer now-I enjoy the torque, the sound, the handling, the convertible roof.I'm usually in third by 20 mph. I guess that I'm the complete opposite of the guys on "Street outlaws".
C-mon Camster, I'm an old guy too, but 3rd gear at 20mph, my God,but anyway back to the OP, I'm with Will

Being an 04,it only has one GT badge. When I first got the car,I was tempted to remove the badge, and put on quieter mufflers from a Crown Vic or something.
My own stealthy little sleeper.

Back to the question: I keep engine load and engine speed as mild as I can initially, varying the speed as much as possible.I slowly increase the load and rpms.I do the first OC and filter between 1k and 2k.

Ford covers this in the little book they put in the glove box.

Thanks for all the replies guys. This is some good feedback. I read the manual section on break in period but it didn't cover RPM. Also, I was nowhere near the redline. I think I will be just fine as well. And I do plan on doing an oil change at 1000 miles, switching over to a full synthetic; likely AMSOIL, unless I cheap out and go with Mobil 1.

Put it to you this way. When the salesman rode with me to fill it for the first time he walked back to the dealership. This baby is ready to go right out of the box.

I've always lived by the mantra of "break it in in the manner you're going to drive it"... which for me means it get's broken in with lots of high revs and hard accelerations. I've done this on all my motorcycles in my old 08 GT/CS.

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a 2015 GT and will do the same with that.

My first GT I bought in Germany in 2008. First trip from picking it up was to check where the governor topped out at on the autobahn. Found the governor to be 149 or 150 in 4th gear with 3.31. Best new car test drive ever, you don't get to test drive them when you buy from the military car store, just get to look at the fancy manual.

Does Ford utilize a special break-in oil?

Personally, I would wait until after the first oil change to push it hard.
