If I happen to find gas with low (or no) ethanol, my gas mileage is insanely better. The gas from the dealer I buy from tends to have no ethanol. When I got my 2013 (previous Mustang), gas near me tended to have around <5% ethanol, I averaged 21.5-23 MPG with normal driving (mix of highway and city), in 2015 when stations began to use ~10% ethanol, my MPG dropped to 18.5-20.5. When I took home my 2016, on the dealer gas I got a ~23 MPG avg, afterwards it was back down to the 18.5-20.5 range.
I think after your first fill-up, you're going to see much worse gas mileage.

Yea but his gearing is also really low at 3.15. That will help with gas mileage also. I'm almost 2700rpm at 80mph with 3.73s. But, I'll win at the strip

I expect to see worse as my first drive was pure hiway for almost 500 miles. That will probably never happen again.

Actually, with the 3.15 gears, he's got the "highest" gearing. Your car, with the 3.73's, has the lowest.

fast forward to time index 3:50 and 10:50 for the relative part of the conversation.

Just because "you" have never seen that kind of fuel economy, doesn't mean it can't be done! Now maybe you folks, like many on this forum, don't think a GT should ever be driven that way, but that's a topic for another conversation. The point is, if driven conservatively, the GT, at the very least, has the "potential" to get pretty good gas mileage. Bottom line is, the "driver" is the biggest factor in what kind of gas mileage a car is going to return and I've found that most folks don't drive in an economical fashion, although many think they do. I have no doubt that your cars are returning gas mileage that is right in line with how you choose to drive them. That doesn't mean you can't do better!

Drive Safe,
Steve R.

Sea level and flat...what is that? I live at 5000' with lots of elevation changes and lots of wind, usually cross or head, rarely tail winds. My drive home was very windy with elevations close to 8000 feet. Who knows what kind of gas the seller had in it. So I can see 30 mpg at optimum conditions. The first video showed 2000 rpm, not sure which tranny he had.

Plus, his is supercharged, so if he constantly babies it, it's likely to get better fuel economy (more-so when cruising)... but, I mean, he'd need a very light foot

Lol!! Congrats, your MPGs are 18.7 average. Just because you get on the highway and get really light on the foot doesn't mean you'll get 30mpg. Someone please show me a mustang that's averaging 25+mph for 5k miles or so then we talk. If ford could have claimed 28+mpg on the GT they would've considering the standards the government puts on them.

All he was saying is, if you're willing to take it easy, the car will give it to you. He never said he drove it like that all the time. If I remember correctly, he also said that 18.7 included some track time or other aggressive driving? What kind of economy was he getting while doing that? You know how quickly a couple of really bad numbers will drag down the average and how hard it is to get it back up after the fact. Looking at in that light, the 18.7 doesn't sound that bad to me. He talked about that cross country to California and back. I'd be interested in seeing what he averaged on that trip?
