2016 Rear End Gear
#21
I just bought a '16 GT PP race red convertible w/ manual, no pics yet. I drove all three rear ends. The 3.31 was smooth and good for a dd with traffic, the 3.73 was fun but required high rpms for a smooth shift, would be best for weekend racers. I got the 3.55 because it was a good compromise between the other two, plenty of kick but smith shifting at lower rpms. Unless I am going for a really quick start, I usually take off in second gear.

These cars have aggressive gearing (Autos & manuals) from the factory where 4.10's are complete overkill and wouldn't make the car any faster. What worked in fox bodie cars do not work in these cars. Haven't since 2011. My 2011 auto with 3.15's ran 11.2 @ 122 mph N/A. Pretty good for a car that weighed 3900+ lbs. Also many that have 3.73's in the manual transmissions say those feel awfully short and would rather have less gearing.

I test drove a manual with the PP and I can honestly say that if I daily drove that car, 1st gear would rarely be used.....

kinda dumb that PP doesn't allow you to get any gear except 3.73... It is too much gear with the way the 6 spd is geared. days of gears being the first upgrade are a thing of the past. I plan on going to the 3.31 someday when put on a blower. added big power will make the first couple gears even more worthless.
