Default 2016 Rear End Gear

Is 3:73 the lowest you can get in a stock rear end? With a 6-speed, a 4:10 would be nice.

yep, same as always. 3.31 standard, 3.55 and 3.73 optional.

The question is, will a 4.10 fit in the hoghead of a 2016 GT? I don't see any for sale on any of the websites

I think the S550 uses the same 8.8" gear/diff as the older Mustangs, just in a different case.

I talked with a rep from American Muscle and it is what I assumed. The hoghead is too small to hold a 4.10 ring gear. 3.73 is the best you can do. With a 6-speed, 4.10's would be great. I know nothing about the new mustangs, all I have ever had was fox bodies.

feh? do you measure your fuel economy in rods to the hogshead?

The gearing on the new transmission is quite a bit different from what you are used to. Look at that as well - I think you will find that 1st gear would be useless with 4.10's

jz78817, not sure what you are asking but I am not worried about the fuel economy. If that was my concern, I would have bought another Honda...lol.

These cars have aggressive gearing (Autos & manuals) from the factory where 4.10's are complete overkill and wouldn't make the car any faster. What worked in fox bodie cars do not work in these cars. Haven't since 2011. My 2011 auto with 3.15's ran 11.2 @ 122 mph N/A. Pretty good for a car that weighed 3900+ lbs. Also many that have 3.73's in the manual transmissions say those feel awfully short and would rather have less gearing.

Appreciate the info scottmach. I think I am going to still go with 3.73's, and if I don't like it, I will change it. I might actually drive this car once a week once the weather gets warm but other than that it will sit.

First week in March I will have the lowering springs on it I already bought, 3.73's and the windows tinted.
