Default thoughts on the 2011

So I heard the news of the 5.0 being official. Naturally my first reaction was a loud "DAMNIT" but the more I think about it, the more I think I will not regret my purchase. My thinking is, the new motor is exactly that...brand new...never been in a previous vehicle, never been on an extensive real world test. So since this motor has never seen the real world yet, whats to say that it wont blow up at 100k miles? Also, the new motor has impressive numbers, but will slapping a supercharger on it be safe?

I also dabbled in the idea (though I need some clarification that may not be avaliable at the moment) that maybe the motor is modular like the 4.6 meaning maybe there will be kits to take upper end and put it on the 4.6L block? I've heard of people converting their old 2v into 4v so maybe it will be possible with the new motor? I know it probably wouldn't make the same power but it's a start! How about other parts? Could the 6-speed tranny bolt up to the 4.6? That would be nice.

Either way, I'm very proud of Ford for finally looking at Chevy and telling them a nice and loud F U! lol. With how close the stats are on the 2010 vs. the Camaro SS, I'm gonna love to see the 2011's completely smoke those pesky chevys.

I agree with most of what you are saying... however the new mustang will not smoke the new camaro... it will be a close race... in the rumors part of this forum someone broke down different stats, weight vs power and things like that. The mustang putting on a little extra muscle also hurt its weight a little bit... It will be a closer race

I got shafted and will have to wait for a 2011 now rather than a 2010, but in all honesty, it doesn't matter.

As long as I can get all of the same options on the 11 that I could get on the 10, changing the engine out is fine by me. What the hell am I going to do with 412 HP? That will be more than enough fro me. I'll be coming from a 170 HP 1994 Ford Explorer. I'll be more than OK with 412 for a while. I'm not worried about a first-gen engine. I'm sure it will be fine, if not, so be it. I'm looking forward to it.

On the subject of new engines, I think it's time to drop the superhcharger on the GT500 and bring back the 428 or 427. Just a thought.

Power in all these cars has gotten to a point that is all down to bragging rights. Who has the bigger engine, who has the fastest car... There will always be a faster car. Someone asked me last night how do you feel about the new V6 having almost as much power as your car doesn't that make you feel crappy inside. I said no, in 2000 BMW came out with this amazing car called the M5, it is a 400hp 5.0 32 valve engine. It runs 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and 1/4 mile in around 13.2. So my car was obsolete ten years before it was even made... I love my 2010 and I just look at as... it will be a pretty rare car with such a limited production run. Sorry about the rant...

I hope everyone with a 2010 doesn't regret their purchase and loves their car as much as me... and to everyone getting the 2011 enjoy that car also... it will be a hell of a car

I too have a 2010 gt, all it has on it right now is a programmer, I have new LT headers, waiting on my heads to be finished at the porters, those mods and cams will put me at the same hp as the 2011, but I'm thinking about selling those items and buying the 2011 and keeping the warrenty, who knows what I'll do in a few months, but right now I love my 10, it is by far the best hot rod I have owned, not the most powerfull but overall the best by a long shot

We're gonna pick one up and see what we can do with it. Maybe some pistons, rods and a big blower. :-) It would be nice to see how it does when pushed hard.

I couldnt care less. MY vette is an 07, it has the ls2, a few months later GM came out with the LS3, my ls2 currently puts out just a bit under 500 hp at the wheels with my mods, so I could care less what a stock vette puts out No big deal. Im back at looking at a 10 and just fine with it only having 315 hp (0-60 in under 5 seconds is nothing to shake a stick at). I figure I drive the 4.6 for a couple years let the 5.0 get its bugs worked out, when my 3 year b2b warranty is up, trade it for a 5.0. Giving the 5.0 3 good years to get its bugs worked out, and Im going to take advantage of fords 0% for 36 months so in 3 years it will be paid for and I have a good chunk towards a trade.

I'll be trading in my 07 for a 2011. 400 hp is all I need.
