Lightbulb 2011 mustang gt engine question

the engine is suppose to be forged (crank, rods, etc). how much horse power could you get out of it before it comes apart. is the motor comparable to the 2003-2004 cobra engine as far as being built proof? i mite trade my cobra in and some cash down, but trying to figure out if the newer 2011 engine is worth building on as far as adding a supercharger.

Well, considering the fact that they are building the engine, it's a pretty safe bet that it's not "built proof."

It is my understanding that while the engine is pretty well built up from the factory, it isn't supercharger-ready quite out of the box. There is one part of the engine that is powdered iron, IIRC... i think it's the rods? I can't remember off the top of my head.

I talked to some techs at the stealership today and they said the new engine isn't made to handle too much more power than they are making... on the other hand, the GT350 has the 5.0 and it is supercharged so.....

Yes, but it likely has upgraded internals. Everything but the rods is good to go for serious power. The crank is forged, there are 4 bolt mains, etc. etc. Just the rods and pistons. Of course, if you're going supercharged, you would likely want to lower the engine from its stock 11:1 compression ratio.

Just curious, but any guesses on how much upgraded rods would cost on the Coyote 5.0
Why would the pistons not be able to handle supercharging?

its a first year run of a brand new motor so no one REALLY knows what you can do with it until they are able to get their hands on one but if the internals are not as strong as they should be that could be because ford is trying to keep costs down.

Just a guess

I've also heard that another problem is the transmission can't take as much power as our 5 speeds could

It's not the pistons themselves, it's the CR they give. You don't want to supercharge an 11:1 compression motor. You're asking for it to blow up.

The GT350 is only supercharged to 500HP ... which appears to be max for the stock drive-train ...

If you want to S/C ... better off getting a deal on a 2010 GT and S/Cing it up to 500HP since the stock 2010 Drivetrain can handle 500HP as well ...
