Problem with 5.0 Clutch / Slave Cylinder
#21
Finally took delivery and got some break-in miles on my 5.0 M6. I experienced the dreaded "clutch pedal stuck to the floor" syndrome the first time I took it to redline and grabbed second gear. At 6500 rpm the pedal popped back up. I promptly removed the new clutch assist spring (mine had it and the traditional return spring in the pedal box [build date, week of May 24th]) and except for having a heavier clutch (not more than you would expect) I have not experienced any further problems with the clutch. Someone in another thread suggested removing the spring by working the pedal back and forth while prying the spring off. I did not remove mine in that manner as I wanted to make sure I didn't damage the parts in case I needed to reinstall them later for a recall. An easy way to remove the spring is to;
1. Press the pedal to the floor.
2. Place the lower jaw of adjustable pliers in the gap above the lowest coil in the spring.
3. Place the upper jaw of the pliers on top of the upper spring seat.
4. Compress the spring with the upper spring seat and pivot pin.
5. Tilt the top of the spring towards yourself and lift out.
6. Slide the lower spring seat off of its mount pin.
7. If needed, reinstall in reverse order.
Hope this helps.
