Default 5.0 envy, immaturity, or general douchebaggery?

Hey guys/gals. I've really enjoyed reading the thousands of threads I've read so far in the past month or so. I've got to ask about something that is starting to be a trend that I'm not very fond of.

When I got my 2011 Mustang GT, I thought it to be the equivalent of joining a fraternity or brotherhood of Mustang owners, but almost every non-Coyote-5.0 Mustang GT owner I encounter who is under the age of 30 feels like they have something to prove to me. It is absolutely ridiculous and quite dangerous the behavior I've seen exhibited.

A few weeks back I went to watch the UFC fight at a local restaurant. I deliberately parked next to a really nice looking 4.6GT that was lowered, had a body kit on it, aftermarket wheels, etc. I parked next to him because I thought, "Here's a guy who appreciates and takes care of his car. No way will he open his door into mine and scratch either one of our cars." I didn't know that I was walking out after the fight right behind the owner of that car. We get to our cars at nearly the same time. He immediately starts his up and starts revving it to at least 6K RPM repeatedly. Then he cranks up the sound system and starts booming it. After he backs out of his spot, he backs right behind me and then power-brakes the car and does an extended burnout for at least 20 seconds. Mind you this is in the parking lot of a restaurant that is in a shopping center with a Kroger and other various stores. My first thought, IDIOT.

Last week, I'm on my way to work on I-285 in Atlanta. The speed limit on 285 is 55 everywhere. I've got the cruise set on 73 with an Escort Passport 9500ix in the windshield. Another guy in a 4.6GT comes blasting past me in the far left lane (I was in the middle lane). He blasts past me, gets over two lanes to the right, slows way down to get behind me, and then he blasts past me in the left lane again like I'm in reverse. I know for a fact I haven't cut him off or done anything to attract the attention other than having a Race Red 5.0.

Just this morning coming up GA400 north I got off at Windward Parkway. In my rearview mirror I could see a 4.6GT weaving and driving like a maniac. He must have cut off 6 or 7 cars weaving in and out of traffic to catch up to me so we could be side by side at the next traffic light. Once again, I've done nothing to provoke any of this. Sitting at the light next to me, he's jumping the front end and then backing up and then jumping it and backing it up. I just shook my head at him like he was an idiot. I did make my stand though and floored it when the light went green. I pulled him so hard it wasn't even close, so I'm guessing he was bone stock. Before we made it to the next intersection, he turned onto a different road. I guess he couldn't handle the shame I had just put on him.

I could cite at least 4 or 5 more times that this has happened, and I haven't even had the car for 2 full months yet. The one thing in common that ALL of these encounters have had in common is that I'm guessing not one of the owners was over the age of 30.

My experience with the over-30 crowd has been very, very different and how I sort of expected everybody to act. Leaving church the other day, a very nice 4.6GT was on the road in front of my church. I could see him checking out my car as I was checking his out as well. He gave the gentlemanly head-nod as if saying, "Nice car, sir." Of course I obliged with the head-nod, "Right back at 'ya." I've had 50+ and 60+ year old men come up to me at gas stations and tell me all about the Mustangs of their lives. I've had Corvette owners give me the head-nod. I've had tons of Camaro owners pull up next to me at a light and we chat it up about our cars, but none of the aggression that is shown to me from fellow Mustang owners.

So I've got to ask, do these youngsters have 5.0 envy, is it just immaturity, or is it general douchebaggery?

I was just in the Atlanta area during Labor Day weekend. I realized that people down there in general have issues, and mostly people thinking doing something retarded is the smartest thing in the world.

You can't use Labor Day weekend as a gauge for people in Atlanta. That weekend brings along the DragonCon folks and the Gay Black Pride parade.

I may risk getting tagged as a douche here, but I think the whole point of a Mustang is to have fun in, not just be seen in, like the OP thinks it's for. You must be one of those guys that I run into at stoplights, I rev my engine at, expecting a friendly rev back... and nothing; making me look like an idiot.

You have a 5.0L 412hp V8 in there. You are going to draw a lot of attention. Join the douchebaggery from time to time, man. Do a little burnout; an acknowledging rev. It's what's your car's for.

Dude, I'm totally a "spirited" driver. I love to have fun in my car, but I've seen some exceptionally stupid stuff ONLY from other Mustang drivers. This ain't my first rodeo when it comes to super quick, high HP cars. A drag strip burnout in a grocery store parking lot is a bit much, right? 40+ MPH over the speed limit?

To each his own, I guess. I think the Atlanta traffic does make people crazy. I drive 100 miles round trip to work every day (Alpharetta to College Park), so I guess I'm on the road enough to attract the idiots in the various different cities along the way.

Having a nice rev is different than immediately going to 6k RPM and then doing a 20 second burnout behind someone or hauling *** ahead of someone just to break in front of them.

Nothing wrong with a burnout... in the right situation and in good spirits.
At a cars show at burnout contests orwhen someone asks you to "see what she can do..", etc. etc.

Point in case.... O.P. , I'd say you ran into the combination.
